Mock OrangeMock Orange Germination GuideEight weeks before sowing, seeds should be placed in moist sand or peat moss and kept refrigerated at around 40 degrees Fahrenheit to improve germination success rates. Germinating Seeds The germinating flat or pots and medium should be clean and disease-free. A suitable germinating medium could contain equal parts coarse sand and peat moss and smaller amounts of perlite and vermiculite or a similar combination. The seeds benefit from some light exposure, so they should be sown on the medium surface, covered only very lightly with medium and kept in bright, indirect light. The seeds benefit from regular misting to keep the medium moist but not wet and temperatures between about 70 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. After about two months, seedlings are ready to transplant to a larger container with well-draining potting soil and receive weekly fertilizer applications. The tender seedlings require protection from cold temperatures or spring frosts and excessive heat. | ||||||||||||||
