Hoya carnosa, the porcelain flower or wax plant, is an Asclepiad species of flowering plant in the dogbane family Apocynaceae.

It is one of the many species of hoya that are native to Eastern Asia and Australia. It is a common house plant grown for its attractive waxy foliage, and sweetly scented flowers.

The flowers are typically light pink, but may vary from near-white to dark pink; they are star-shaped, and are borne in clusters that look like tiny wax miniatures.

The surface of the flowers is covered in tiny hairs giving them a fuzzy sheen.

They are heavily scented and may produce excess nectar that drips from the flowers.

Like all Hoyas, this species flowers from specialized perennial structures referred to as spurs.

These appear from the axils of the leaves and stem; flowers may not be produced when the spurs first appear, but in time buds emerge from the tips.

Each season new flowers are produced on these same spurs, so they should not be damaged or removed. - In Stock

Dischidia imbricata cutting very rare unusual plant String of Nickels
Dischidia imbricata cutting very rare unusual plant known as String of Nickels plant

Small roots at the leaf nodes, just plant in suitable medium and it will grow well

Slow growing and needs little care

Apocynaceae family

Free shipping in a rigid box

Photo shows one of our larger plants and the roots that appear at the leaf nodes

This is Dischidia platyphylla, which is sometimes called Shingle Plant because the leaves tend to overlap as the grow up or down the surface and give the appearance of shingles on a roof. Growing to 6-feet long, this vine has many thin, twining branches.

It grows in rainforests as an epiphyte.

They are native to tropical areas of China, India and most of Indo-China. Dischidia are closely associated with the sister genus Hoya, but unlike Hoya, the genus Dischidia is poorly known and has not been studied as closely.

The underside of the leaf has a space which is filled with roots that ants take shelter.

Dischidia requires indirect light for at least half the day.

Avoid placing it near doors or windows where drafts can stress the plant.

The best medium is composed of shredded bark or coconut husks - In Stock
